There is nothing like the month of March to announce that Spring is coming and with it, a new measure of hope. My heart has been grieving like many of you, for the people suffering in Ukraine. I’ve offered up prayers on their behalf and whenever I see a post of a sunflower, I can’t help but smile. There is strength in those stalks and resilience in the petals and while its days are numbered as are each of us, there is always another set to bloom and more where it came from.
Seeds are like that. You can plant a single sunflower seed, but the yield is not one-for-one, it’s a thousandfold or more.
Love is germinated very much the same. You can’t just love a single time, any more than you can hug your husband only once. It takes firm root and is watered by grace and giving, is nurtured by kindness and kisses and fertilized by forgiveness and faith. But like the sunflower, love must face the sun and extend itself outward for its in the shadows of retreat and selfishness that sadness and hurt take over.
To the people of Ukraine, may blue skies be forever on the horizon and may the fields of gold forever face the sun. And may that nation that honors the God of heaven be forever free to praise His name.
